Obtaining Sonya through what has now been ruled an illegal order wasn’t the extent of John’s family reunion this year. John’s ex-wife Carol (Myers) Spence moved back to Nebraska late last year, along with their son Kevin McCaul; and Carol's other son (John’s stepson) Eric Warbelton was also released from prison after having served a little over 9 years for his work with the Bridge Killing Crew.
When thinking about whether John should get custody of Sonya after having abandoned and neglected her for so many years, it’s worth asking whether we have any evidence of the kind of father John is. Of course John has been imprisoned for so many years during his children's lifetimes that the answer is almost obvious. As we’ve already seen, his track record with parenting is pretty abysmal.
Now no doubt his fans would protest that John is a changed man, that he’s turned over a new leaf and should be given the benefit of the doubt.
But while we have almost no real information about how he’s influencing Sonya, we fortunately do have information about how his influence -- or lack thereof -- is affecting his other children. It would seem John’s Inverse Midas remains fully intact. Everyone who comes into John's orbit ends up in trouble.
Let’s take Kevin McCaul first. Kevin moved from Vancouver, Washington with his mother Carol late last year. In Washington Kevin had no criminal convictions, just a smattering of traffic offenses. But since moving back to Nebraska with his mother, he’s been arrested twice--once for disturbing the peace by fighting (to which he pled guilty), and a second time for assault with intent to intent to commit bodily injury (a charge that is still pending).
John’s stepson and Kevin’s half-brother Eric, he of Bridge Killing Crew fame, was recently arrested too-- also for assault with intent to commit bodily injury. One would have hoped that his 9-year stint in jail for manslaughter, on which he was just released one year ago (and on which his parole expired only seven months ago) would have reformed him, but alas no.
One of the things that makes these two brothers’ arrests so interesting is that for their most recent crimes, both were arrested together--same place, same time. They were both charged with assaulting Anthony Clemons, Sr., a 44-year-old black man.
And the place where this crime took place -- 911 South 11th Street in Lincoln -- happens to also be the residence of this man, Kyle Aric Keller, a convicted sex offender. Looking at Kyle, one wonders what else he may be involved with besides kiddie porn.
Now one of the things that John admitted to in prior testimony is to being part of the Aryan Nation, a fact he also admitted during his ill-fated defamation suit. Perhaps now that his two sons are back in town, John is educating them in the religion? Two white guys assaulting an older black man would definitely be a good way to “jump in.”
Last but not least, Nebraska doesn’t seem to be agreeing with Kevin on another level either--his most recent arrest record shows him living on the streets. I guess John can’t be bothered to take in Sonya's brother. But it’s good to see he’s teaching him well in the family ways.
Sadly these two are not the only recently-returned relatives with serious problems reflecting their relatives' examples. One wonders what form Sonya’s introduction into the McCaul family lifestyle will take.
